DNC Statement on Cruz in Georgia Today
August 27, 2022
As Ted Cruz heads to Atlanta, Georgia today,DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:
“Ted Cruz voted against lowering the cost of prescription drugs and home utility bills, stood in the way of capping insulin costs, and would take us backward on reproductive freedom. The last thing Georgians need is his extreme MAGA agenda in their state.”
Cruz voted against extending lower health care costs and allowing Medicare to directly negotiate the price of prescription drugs for the first time, siding with Big Pharma over Georgians.
The New York Times: “The package would cap the out-of-pocket costs that seniors pay annually for prescription drugs at $2,000, and would ensure that seniors have access to free vaccines.”
CNBC: “Medicare is poised to renegotiate the prices of some of its most expensive drugs through a historic expansion of its power, which could reduce costs for many seniors as well as federal spending on its prescription drug plan.”
What’s more, Cruz helped block a proposal by Senate Democrats to cap the price of insulin at $35 a month for millions of Americans on private insurance.
The Washington Post: “Republicans Block Cap On Insulin Costs For Millions Of Patients”
Cruz also voted against ensuring that corporations and the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share in taxes, even though Americans making less than $400,000 a year will not see increased audit rates or higher tax rates.
Associated Press: “Nothing in the bill raises taxes on people earning less than $400,000… There are no individual tax rate increases for anyone in the bill, experts say.”
CNBC: “IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig said the [IRA] funding would not increase audits of households making less than $400,000 per year.”
Cruz views the repeal of Roe v. Wade as a “massive victory” and supports banning abortion, even in the case of rape.
MSNBC: “Cruz makes his case against an abortion rape exception.”
