After making clear they’re willing to play politics with the full faith and credit of the United States, Republicans finally realized it was an untenable position and got out of the way so Democrats could responsibly raise the debt ceiling. DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:
“Until the final minutes, Mitch McConnell’s reckless caucus struggled to find even ten Senate Republicans to do the bare minimum and get out of the way so Democrats could be the responsible stewards of the nation’s economy. Let’s be clear — Republicans do not deserve any credit for playing politics with our financial stability and then only folding when they realized it’s not politically fortuitous. The Republican Party is in disarray and couldn’t care less about doing the jobs they were elected to do.” |
