DNC Statement on Hanukkah

As Hanukkah commences, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Interfaith Council Co-Chairs Sarah Levin, Cindy Bass, and Johnnie Roebuck released the following statement:

“Every year, Jewish people around the world gather to honor the miracle of Hanukkah: the story of a small amount of oil burning for eight days when it should have lasted only one – a symbol of the enduring power of hope and perseverance that the Jewish people carry with them to this day.

“As Jewish families come together to celebrate this joyous holiday, we also recognize that this year’s Hanukkah comes after the deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust and amidst a tragic rise in antisemitism. We also remember that at its core, the story of Hanukkah is a testament to the strength and resilience of the Jewish people – and a reminder that light will always prevail, even in the darkest of days.

“We wish a very happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate, and may it bring you happiness and joy as you spend time with your family. Chag Chanukah Sameach!”
