DNC Statement on Juneteenth

WASHINGTON – DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz issued the following statement on Juneteenth:

“Today, as Americans across the country celebrate Juneteenth and the abolition of slavery, we must also recommit ourselves to the unfinished work of securing the promise of full equality for all.

“Clearly, our work is far from finished in the fight against discrimination and racial inequality. In too many communities, superficial divisions of race and class still separate us. For too many Americans, the real wounds of racism and discrimination hold them down and restrain them from reaching their full potential.

“Democrats believe our people are our greatest strength. We believe in tearing down the walls of discrimination and giving everyone a fair shot. That’s why we remain dedicated to expanding opportunity, leveling the playing field and giving all Americans the tools they need to succeed, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or religion.”
