DNC Statement on Juneteenth 2025
June 19, 2025
DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta issued the following joint statement on Juneteenth:
“Today, Americans across the country gather to commemorate Juneteenth, a day of celebration, remembrance and resolve. On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally freed. Juneteenth marks this date as the true end to slavery, and is a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and centuries of injustice faced by Black Americans.
“As we honor this day, we also celebrate the Black community’s profound contributions to the American story. Yet we know that the promises of freedom can not be fully realized until there is equity and justice for all.”
“The Democratic Party remains committed to fighting for civil rights and dismantling the systems in our country that promote racial discrimination. Whether it be at the ballot box or in the streets, we continue to fight to advance reforms for all marginalized groups in America.
“So today, let us celebrate Juneteenth by uplifting Black voices and culture, learning from our history, and committing ourselves to a future of further progress.”
