DNC Statement on National Gun Violence Awareness Day
June 6, 2025
DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement on National Gun Violence Awareness Day:
“Year after year, gun violence steals far too many lives too young and too soon, ripping apart families and tearing an irreparable hole in our communities. Last year alone we saw over 500 mass shootings and nearly 17,000 gun deaths. This National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we must commit ourselves to stopping the epidemic of gun violence devastating our country.
“Democrats have been committed to common-sense reforms, but time and again we’ve been alone in this fight. Saving lives should not be a partisan issue. So while we mourn the lives that have been taken through gun violence, we must also honor their memories by taking action to pass comprehensive gun reform.”
