DNC Statement on Passover

As Passover commences, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement:

“Every Spring, Jewish friends and families gather around the Seder table to commemorate the story and lessons of Passover. Marking the Jewish people’s exodus from Egypt, the tale of Passover is one of freedom, perseverance, and faith.

“We recognize that this Passover will mark the first since the horrific terrorist attacks against Israel on October 7th, the deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust. For so many Jewish families around the world – and especially those whose loved ones remain in captivity after being taken hostage by Hamas – the trauma inflicted on that day and in the days since is particularly painful during this holiday, especially for those whose loved ones have been killed, taken hostage, or are in harm’s way.

“As President Biden said, ‘The ancient story of persecution against Jews in the Haggadah also reminds us that we must speak out against the alarming surge of Antisemitism – in our schools, communities, and online. Silence is complicity.’ We draw inspiration from the story of Passover: that hope, resilience, and faith can carry us through even the darkest of days. We wish a happy and safe Passover to all who celebrate. Chag Pesach Sameach!”
