DNC Statement on Pence’s National Abortion Ban
October 19, 2022
In response to Mike Pence’s doubling down on Republicans’ proposal for a national abortion ban, DNC spokesperson Ammar Moussa released the following statement:
“Mike Pence made clear today that the first thing Republicans will do if they take power is try to ban abortion in every state. That’s the GOP’s closing midterm message — a national abortion ban.”
Don’t just take it from us — during his speech at the Heritage Foundation today, Mike Pence said that one of the first things Republicans would do if they take power is try to ban abortion in EVERY STATE.
Mike Pence: “On January 22, 2023, we’re going to have pro-life majorities in the House and the Senate — and we’re going to be taking the case for life to every state in America.”
Let’s not forget: Just last month, more than 100 congressional Republicans signed on as cosponsors to Senator Lindsey Graham’s extreme national abortion ban. At every turn, Republicans have doubled and tripled down on their anti-choice extremism.
The Independent: “Lindsey Graham and GOP set to try to push through national abortion ban”
NPR: “Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has introduced a bill to create a federal ban on abortions at 15 weeks in an attempt to force Republicans to adopt a partywide consensus on the issue.”
And House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy is quite literally running on a “commitment” to try to ban abortion nationally if Republicans take power.
Vanity Fair: “Republicans Double Down on Obliterating Abortion Rights in ‘Commitment to America’ Agenda”
Today, Mike Pence laid out his dangerous “vision” for America — a vision that Kevin McCarthy and more than 100 congressional Republicans share. Make no mistake: If these extremists take power, they will stop at nothing to ban abortion in every state.
