In response to a federal judge for the Northern District of Texas ruling to move to block access to the abortion pill mifepristone, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement: 

“Leading medical organizations, including the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, have deemed this medication, which has been available for decades, safe and effective. These decisions should be made between a woman and her doctor and guided by science, not conservative officials with an extreme partisan agenda.

“We knew that MAGA Republicans would not stop at overturning Roe v. Wade, and despite voters overwhelmingly rejecting their extreme anti-choice agenda — including this week in Wisconsin — MAGA Republicans will continue their campaign against women’s reproductive freedom until they achieve their ultimate goal of banning abortion nationwide. Already we’ve seen the MAGA House majority and Republican politicians across the country push anti-abortion legislation, and abortion bans have become the definitive litmus test of the 2024 Republican presidential primary. 

“Democrats will do everything in our power to fight back to ensure access to safe and legal abortion is protected, and voters will hold every last Republican accountable for an extreme anti-choice agenda that takes away Americans’ freedoms and puts their health at risk.”
