As the first night of Kwanzaa begins, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement:

“As families come together to light the red, black, and green candles of the Kinara, we reflect on the lessons of the seven principles and remember that the spirit of unity — Umoja — will build the foundation for strength in our community. 

“Throughout this week-long celebration, we honor the rich African heritage and culture in our country and commemorate the memories, traditions, and bonds that bring us together.  

“To all who celebrate, we wish you a happy Kwanzaa and a joyous time with friends and family.”
