Today, the House voted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, a critical step to protect abortion rights. DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement: 

“Today, House Democrats took a major step to fight back against Republicans’ unrelenting attacks on reproductive freedom and finally codify Roe v. Wade into law. For nearly 50 years, despite overwhelming public support and clear legal precedent, Republicans have systematically created institutional barriers and constructed roadblock after roadblock to limit access to abortion care.

“Democrats will continue our work to ensure people of all backgrounds never face undue barriers to obtaining critical care. We will also hold extremist Republican lawmakers accountable for their unprecedented attacks on an established constitutional right and decades of precedent established under Roe v. Wade.”
