On the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and Vice Chair Lottie Shackelford released the following statement:

“Two years ago today, with their decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, Trump’s handpicked, ultra-conservative Supreme Court justices overturned nearly 50 years of precedent and stripped millions of women of their reproductive freedoms. Since then, 21 states have banned abortion, many with no exception for rape or incest, and over one in three women of reproductive age now live under a ban in effect. Across the country, women have lost access to life-saving reproductive health care and now have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers. The decision to overturn Roe v. Wade set the clock back on decades of progress and ripped away women’s control over their own health, bodies, and futures.    

“Make no mistake: This is Donald Trump’s fault, and when it comes to our reproductive freedoms, this is Donald Trump’s America. When women are forced to travel out-of-state for basic health care, carry a life-threatening pregnancy to term, and consult judges to make their own personal reproductive decisions, Donald Trump is to blame. 

“Trump campaigned on overturning Roe v. Wade, and he kept that promise. He celebrated cruel abortion bans across the country as ‘working very brilliantly’ and is ‘proud’ and ‘honored’ to have created a dangerous and horrifying reality for women. And in the face of overwhelming public support for access to safe, legal abortions, if given the chance, Trump and extreme Republicans will enact a national abortion ban, criminalize abortion, and threaten access to contraception. 

“Under President Biden’s leadership, Democrats have defended reproductive freedom in the courtroom, protected access to abortion for our military families, and strengthened access to contraception. As extreme Republicans continue to come for our rights and freedoms, we are shoring up our defenses on the frontlines. 

“This November, we are confident that voters will reject Trump and MAGA Republicans’ extreme anti-choice, anti-women agenda for a third time, and reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris, and send them a Congress that will codify the protections of Roe into federal law.”
