DNC Statement on the Start of National Disability Employment Awareness Month

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and former Rep. Tony Coelho, chair of the DNC Disability Council, released the following statement on the start of National Disability Employment Awareness Month:

“As this country works to build back better with an economy that is built from the bottom up and the middle out, Democrats understand that we cannot do so without full inclusion, justice and accessibility for all Americans with disabilities in the workplace. Currently, high unemployment rates and systemic challenges prevent people with disabilities from fully participating in the workforce, and until we address these issues and break down these barriers, our businesses will not achieve their full potential.

“President Biden has made it a priority to implement solutions for workplace challenges that people with disabilities face, including centering equity as a priority on day one.

“The Democratic Party is committed to working alongside people with disabilities, disability advocates and their allies to steadfastly pursue an American workplace that protects and empowers all of its workers.”
