DNC Statement on the Third Anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Decision

On the third anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson U.S. Supreme Court decision, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Three years ago today, Donald Trump’s handpicked Supreme Court justices stripped women of their longstanding fundamental right to make decisions about their own health care. Following the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, overturning Roe v. Wade, 21 states have enacted abortion bans, 13 of which are total abortion bans, and Trump’s anti-choice allies continue to lobby for a national abortion ban. Now, women across the nation live in fear, not knowing whether they will have control over their futures or the ability to receive lifesaving reproductive care.

“Let’s make one thing clear: In his second term, Donald Trump is continuing his campaign against women’s reproductive rights. Just this month, Trump overturned Biden-era guidelines for hospitals to administer emergency abortions to women in life-threatening situations. And he is attempting to move a backdoor abortion ban through Congress right now in his budget bill.

“Democrats will not stop fighting until women’s basic rights are restored. While the anniversary of the Dobbs decision painfully reminds us of the devastation caused by Trump, we recognize and celebrate the work of health care professionals, patients, advocates, and Democrats across state legislatures who are fighting for and are working to codify abortion protections into law. Make no mistake: Democrats will not stand down until women’s freedoms are restored.”
