DNC Statement on Tonight’s Special Election Victory in Wisconsin

DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after Democrat Caleb Frostman flipped SD-1, marking the 43rd state legislative flip since Trump took office:

“Congratulations to Senator-elect Caleb Frostman on his victory tonight, which flipped yet another Republican-held seat from red to blue. As a dedicated public servant, Caleb will be a strong, progressive voice fighting for working families and entrepreneurs in northeast Wisconsin.

“Working families in Wisconsin want leaders who will fight for the issues that matter to them. They know Democrats like Caleb have their back, and tonight is further proof that when we organize and lead with our values, we’re unstoppable.

“Scott Walker fought tooth and nail not to hold today’s special elections, simply because he was afraid voters would once again reject the GOP’s destructive agenda of denying Wisconsinites health care, gutting public schools, and putting corporations ahead of working families.

“The momentum is palpable in Wisconsin, where we’ve already seen massive swings in our direction in SD-10 and the state Supreme Court race. The DNC has been proud to invest early in the DPW through our six-figure State Party Innovation Fund grant to help expand the party’s efforts to engage and organize Wisconsin voters. The DPW has already leveraged this increased organizing capacity to lift Rebecca Dallet to the Supreme Court, as well as build the support we need to keep winning up and down the ballot in 2018. We look forward to working with the DPW to keep organizing and electing Democrats across the state.”
