DNC Statement on Women’s History Month
March 1, 2025
In celebration of Women’s History Month, DNC Chair Ken Martin and DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Lottie Shackelford released the following statement:
“This Women’s History Month, we honor the courageous women who have shaped our nation’s past, from the suffragists who fought for the right to vote to the trailblazers who have led the way in education, leadership, and social justice. Their strength, resilience, and relentless pursuit of equality continue to inspire us today.
“Women have always been at the forefront of change — challenging injustice, pushing for equality, and breaking down barriers. Yet, as we celebrate their remarkable achievements, we must also acknowledge the ongoing struggle to protect and expand the rights of women and girls. At a time when women’s reproductive rights are under attack, Democrats won’t stop fighting to safeguard women’s right to make their own health care decisions.
“Over the last few years, Democrats have worked tirelessly to advance women’s rights. From expanding the child tax credit through the American Rescue Plan Act, which provided direct relief to women, particularly women of color, who were disproportionately affected by the economic fallout of the pandemic, to reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, which strengthened protections for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, the Democratic Party has delivered.
“Women are now under constant threat from Republicans who seek to turn back the clock on their rights, but Democrats will continue to fight to build a fairer, more equitable country. So, as we reflect on Women’s History Month, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every woman and girl’s fundamental rights are protected and strengthened for generations to come.”
