DNC Statement Three Years After January 6 Attack on Capitol

On the three-year anniversary of Donald Trump inciting a violent insurrection on the United States Capitol, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement:

“Three years ago, our country watched as Donald Trump encouraged a violent mob to storm the United States Capitol and attack law enforcement in an attempt to remain in power. The sounds and images from that day continue to shake us to our very core today: the smashed windows and broken-down doors, the screams of Capitol Police officers as they were attacked, and insurrectionists ransacking Congress.

“Make no mistake, Trump’s continuous assaults on the foundations of our country drove our democracy to the brink of ruin on January 6, 2021, and on the campaign trail he continues to parrot dictators while promising that if reelected he would be a dictator on ‘Day One.’ Our nation’s greatest power is our democracy, and it is on us to stand up and fight for the future of our nation. As Donald Trump continues to spread lies and vitriol that undermine our democracy, we stand with President Biden and Vice President Harris as they fight to defend freedom and democracy for all of us. Our future depends on it.”
