Do Republicans Stand with RGA Chair Pete Ricketts’ Plan to Ban Abortion with No Exceptions for Rape or Incest?
May 17, 2022
In an interview over the weekend, chair of the Republican Governors Association and Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts made clear he supports a full abortion ban with no exception for rape or incest.
Voters deserve to know where every Republican leader and candidate stands on the right to an abortion:
Do you support an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest?
Republican leaders are making it crystal clear that their policies are wildly out of touch with the American people.
Daily Beast: “Nebraska Guv Wants No Rape or Incest Exception for Abortion: ‘They’re Still Babies’”
NBC News: “But more recent restrictions have been passed in Arizona, including a law signed in March by Republican Gov. Doug Ducey banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The law makes exceptions for medical emergencies but not for rape or incest. It could take effect by late summer if Roe is struck down.”
Wisconsin Public Radio: “His stance on exceptions to an abortion ban puts him at odds with the four Republicans running for governor — who have all said they support a total ban on abortions. The Republican candidates running for governor are former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, construction executive Tim Michels, former U.S. Senate candidate Kevin Nicholson and state Rep. Tim Ramthun, R-Campbellsport.”
Washington Post: “On Tuesday, Oklahoma’s governor signed a law criminalizing providing abortion in the state. The law doesn’t punish the woman, and it makes an exception only if the life of the woman is in danger, not for rape or incest.”
Washington Post: “On Wednesday, Republicans in Kentucky overrode the Democratic governor’s veto to implement a 15-week abortion ban. It, too, makes an exception only if the woman’s life is in danger.”
Washington Post: “A ban on abortions after about six weeks in Texas that went into effect in September also makes no exceptions for rape or incest.”
Washington Post: “Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Thursday signed legislation that will ban abortions in the state after 15 weeks of pregnancy as Republican-led states move swiftly to restrict abortion access…The new law, which passed the GOP-controlled legislature in March, includes exceptions for the life of the mother and ‘fatal fetal anomalies’ but does not make exceptions for rape or incest. It would take effect in July.”
