Donald Trump Is the Grinch Who Made The Holidays More Expensive Than Ever
December 12, 2025

Americans aren’t feeling so jolly this holiday season as prices on holiday items are averaging 26% higher than last year — hitting record highs under Donald Trump’s failing economy. In a new poll, most Americans say they’ve noticed higher prices for groceries, electricity, and holiday gifts, forcing them to dip into their savings and scour for bargains.
Holiday items have climbed to staggering prices this year — with Hanukkah candles up 33.4%, gelt up 25%, and menorahs up 19.5%. Christmas items saw steep increases, with stockings up 42.9%, Santa hats up 35.1%, and candy canes up 28.9%. Even essentials are skyrocketing, with wrapping paper up 13.3%, Christmas trees up 13.2%, and lights up 18.1%.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Everyday Americans are facing the most expensive holiday season on record, and Donald Trump couldn’t care less. His reckless trade war has caused prices to soar while jobs disappear, and now the cost of holiday items is skyrocketing — forcing working families to make impossible decisions about how to get by. Instead of easing the burden, Trump is doubling down on his disastrous policies that benefit billionaires and refusing to acknowledge the economic strain Americans are experiencing. Trump’s ‘golden age’ is a holiday season that is unaffordable for working families, and he couldn’t care less.”
As everyday Americans struggle to afford the most expensive holiday season on record, many are already skipping meals and critical medical care and turning to payday loans and cash advances to make ends meet. Meanwhile, Trump continues to brush off their concerns, calling affordability a “hoax” and making it crystal clear that he couldn’t care less about working families this holiday season.
It’s no surprise that nearly 70% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy — and even his own party has lost faith, with his economic approval among Republicans dropping nine points since March.
