Donald Trump Puts Head in the Sand While Americans Can’t Afford Their Bills
December 10, 2025

At last night’s rally in Pennsylvania, Donald Trump touted his failing economy and brushed off concerns about rising prices by telling voters — again — that affordability is a “hoax.” As he ranted, Trump stood in front of a sign that read ‘LOWER PRICES, BIGGER PAYCHECKS’ — which couldn’t be further from the truth. Inflation keeps climbing, pushing prices higher than ever. And wage growth has slowed since Trump took office, as the cost of food, housing, electricity, and childcare has skyrocketed.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s living in an alternate reality. Prices are soaring and wage growth has slowed dramatically since Trump took office, yet Trump continues dismissing concerns about rising costs as a ‘hoax,’ and made it clear that he couldn’t care less about working families. He has offered ZERO solutions to make life more affordable for everyday Americans. A more accurate sign for Trump’s next pitstop would be ‘HIGHER PRICES, SMALLER PAYCHECKS, BILLIONAIRES FIRST.’”
Eleven months into Trump’s second term, inflation continues to rise, forcing Americans to pay more for health care, groceries, and electricity. On top of that, Americans can expect to pay an average of 26% more this holiday season. U.S. employers have announced 1.17 million job cuts this year, and farm debt is at a record high due to Trump’s reckless trade war.
Trump is out of touch with everyday Americans — just this week, he graded himself an “A-plus-plus-plus-plus-plus” on the economy. Meanwhile, nearly half of Americans say they find groceries, utility bills, health care, housing, and transportation unaffordable, and a staggering 27% say they have skipped a medical check-up because of costs. And nearly 75% of voters blame Trump for rising costs.
