Donald Trump Sends Election-Denying Conspiracy Theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene To Be His MAGA Campaign Surrogate

Ahead of Marjorie Taylor Greene speaking as a Trump campaign surrogate in Iowa today, DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:

“Once again Donald Trump is showing the American people who he is: Just days before the anniversary of Trump encouraging a violent mob to attack our nation’s Capitol, he has called up MAGA minion Marjorie Taylor Greene to champion their extreme and dangerous plans to destroy our democracy and rip away our freedoms. Greene is a fitting mouthpiece for Trump’s campaign, as one of the leading election-denying conspiracy theorists in Congress, and Trump is making sure voters across the country won’t forget that his unpopular agenda is just as extreme, unhinged, and wildly out of touch with voters as she is.”

Trump and Greene are both threats to our democracy who spread lies and denied the results of the 2020 election.

The Guardian: “Marjorie Taylor Greene led delegation to visit Capitol attack defendants in jail”

CNN: “Greene again downplays Capitol riot and says it would have been armed if she led it”

“Greene, whose public image has been built largely on her willingness to make inflammatory statements and embrace fringe conspiracy theories, has previously tried to justify the deadly insurrection and downplayed it as ‘just a riot.’ But many rioters who were at the US Capitol that day carried weapons such as bats and poles, and several carried guns, including one rioter who had two loaded handguns and was sentenced to five years in jail.”

ABC News: “Marjorie Taylor Greene says if she ran Jan. 6 Capitol attack, ‘We would have won’”

Associated Press: “Trump, running for the White House for the third time, has signaled that the 2020 election will remain an integral part of his 2024 presidential bid. In a recent call with reporters about a new book, Trump pointed to polls that show a sizable number of people believe the 2020 election was stolen, even though there is no such evidence. ‘I’m an election denier,’ Trump said. ‘You’ve got a lot of election deniers in this country and they’re not happy about what’s happened.’”

Trump: “January 6, it was the largest crowd I’ve ever spoken to. And they were there proud, they were there with love in their heart. That was an unbelievable — and it was a beautiful day.”

Trump: “People in that crowd said it was the most beautiful day they’ve ever experienced. There was love in that. There was love and unity. I have never seen such spirit and such passion and such love and I’ve also never seen simultaneously and from the same people such hatred of what they’ve done to our country.”

NBC News: “Trump spoke at a fundraiser for Jan. 6 defendants”

Washington Post: “Former president Donald Trump on Thursday praised and embraced a woman convicted of defying police orders on the U.S. Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, 2021. … Trump has steadily escalated his advocacy for people charged in the Capitol riot, including by pledging to pardon them if he returns to the White House, praising them as patriots, participating in a recording with Jan. 6 prisoners singing the national anthem, and playing it at his first rally of the 2024 campaign last month.”

NBC News: “Former President Donald Trump promised Wednesday night that if he is elected he will pardon a ‘large portion’ of the people convicted of federal offenses for their participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.”

Washington Post: “Former president Donald Trump said he would issue full pardons and a government apology to rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and violently attacked law enforcement to stop the democratic transfer of power. ‘I mean full pardons with an apology to many,’ he told conservative radio host Wendy Bell on Thursday morning. Such a move would be contingent on Trump running and winning the 2024 presidential election.”

Buck Sexton: “Will there be a lot of pardons and commutations of people you think were treated unfairly, J6 defendants, January 6 defendants under an administration, your administration?”

Trump: “Yes, absolutely. They were treated horribly … We had people put in jail for five, six, seven years who didn’t do anything wrong. And yes, that will happen very quickly.”

The Hill: “Trump called into small rally held in support of DC-jailed Jan. 6 prisoners”

“‘There’s never been a thing like this has happened in our country, and I just want to tell everybody that’s listening, we’re with you, we’re working with a lot of different people on this, and we can’t let this happen,’ Trump said.”

Trump and Greene have both made frequent calls for violence, with Greene being removed from her committees in Congress because of her calls for violence against her political opponents.

NPR: “House Removes Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene From Her Committee Assignments”

“The House of Representatives has voted to strip Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee assignments, following uproar over her past incendiary comments and apparent support of violence against Democrats.”

Axios: “The times Trump has advocated for violence”

Axios: “Former President Trump’s violent rhetoric — a staple of his political brand dating back to 2015 — has grown more extreme as the walls have begun to close in on his business empire, livelihood and personal freedom.”

“The normalization of political violence — or at least the threat of it — has been one of the most jarring and lasting impacts of Trump’s dominance of the GOP, especially in the wake of his four indictments this year.”

The Atlantic: “Trump Floats the Idea of Executing Joint Chiefs Chairman Milley”

Washington Post: “The Anaheim speech was part of a pattern of increasingly aggressive rhetoric by Trump — and a somewhat muted response by the news media to his repeated exhortations to violence.”

Trump and Greene are both anti-abortion extremists who want to ban abortion nationwide.

NBC News: “Marjorie Taylor Greene starts screaming match with Democrats over abortion rights bill”

Vanity Fair: “Greene has previously said the overturning of Roe v. Wade was a ‘blessing’ and a ‘miracle,’ and called another Republican lawmaker and rape survivor ‘trash’ for supporting rape exceptions. She’s also told women that if they don’t want to get pregnant they should ‘make better choices’ and ‘choose to not have sex.’”

Trump: “There of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it’s very important.”

Trump: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!”

Trump: “I’m the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.”

Trump: “We’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life … I’m going to be in there pushing.”

Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban: “I’m looking at all [options].”

Trump: “Getting rid of Roe v. Wade was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade, to negotiate with. … And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.”

Trump and Greene have both made several mind-boggling, false claims about 9/11.

Daily Beast: “Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Trump-backed candidate who won a Republican primary runoff this week and will very likely win the general race in her deep-red district, said in 2018 video unearthed by Media Matters: ‘We had witnessed 9/11, the terrorist attack in New York and the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania and the so-called plane that crashed into the Pentagon. It’s odd there’s never any evidence shown for a plane in the Pentagon. But anyways, I won’t—I’m not going to dive into the 9/11 conspiracy. But 9/11 had happened. Our country was very much into a war.’”
