Even Republicans Believe Comey Over Trump

The results are in and after yesterday’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Republicans are more trusting of Former FBI Director James Comey over President Donald Trump, the leader of their own party:

Senator Richard Burr (R-NC):

“Jim, several of us on this committee have had the opportunity to work with you since you walked in the door. I want to say, personally, on behalf of all this—all the committee members, we’re grateful to you for your service to your country, not just in the capacity as FBI director, but as prosecutor, and more importantly, being somebody that loves this country enough to tell it like it is.”

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME):

COLLINS: “I found Mr. Comey’s testimony to be credible, candid and thorough. That doesn’t mean that he’s right in every detail that he’s remembering. It doesn’t necessarily mean his interpretations are accurate. But he testified under oath, and I do believe that he’s an individual of integrity who would not deliberately lie under oath.”

CUOMO: “That would mean that the president is lying to the American people about his efforts to meddle in the Flynn probe.”

COLLINS: “Well, I’m not sure that we can reach definitive conclusions, but I tend to place more credence in testimony that’s given under oath.”

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL):

“I don’t think anybody would leave this hearing and say to you what the President said in the Oval Office on the 14th of February was appropriate.”

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC-11):

“I believe that there was nothing untruthful about his testimony, but that being said, to make comments about perceptions in sworn testimony doesn’t necessarily make it true,” Meadows said. “I think Comey wrote things down in a way that perhaps would have a narrative that reflects pretty good on him.”

Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA-15th):
“I would say that my take-away is the president is not—wasn’t under an investigation, and it’s clear, though, that his interference and interventions, though, would make it more likely that he could be under an investigation.” [Andrea Mitchell Reports, 6/9/2017]
