Facts on the Trump Administration’s Title X Gag Rule

The Trump administration’s Title X gag rule will devastate millions of women and their families who rely on the program for affordable birth control, cancer screenings, and other basic health care services. Here are the facts about this dangerous rule:

The rule is the beginning of the total dismantlement of Title X.

Trump’s gag rule will kneecap Title X, a $286 million program that 4 million Americans each year rely on for affordable birth control and reproductive care, as well as basic primary and preventative health care services.

It’s an unconstitutional gag rule.

The rule bars doctors in Title X-funded programs from talking to their patients about where they could access an abortion, even if the patient’s health is at stake.

The rule will disproportionately harm people of color, young patients, and low-income women.

Nearly half of individuals who rely on Title X for access to health care are low-income people of color. Title X is designed to ensure that people struggling to make ends meet can still access birth control, STI testing, cancer screenings, and other essential reproductive health care.

The Trump administration gag rule is widely opposed by the medical community.

The American Medical Association, American Public Health Association, Endocrine Society, and American College of Physicians have all come out against the dangerous gag rule.

The rule includes language specifically designed to block patients from receiving health care services from Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood serves 41 percent of the 4 million patients who get care through Title X health centers— that’s more than 1.6 million patients whose health care is at risk.
