HAPPENING NOW: Tom Perez to Deliver Remarks and March in Memphis

MEMPHIS – Today, Wednesday, April 4, Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez will deliver remarks at a rally and march in Memphis, TN honoring the sacrifice of the 1968 sanitation strikers and the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.  Along with thousands of I AM 2018 activists from across America, Perez will march in honor of the 1,300 workers who famously marched for better wages and working conditions.

It’s no accident that Dr. King’s last campaign was a labor struggle. He understood that the fight for equality has always been inextricably linked to economic opportunity. Tom and the DNC will continue to be a part of the fight to change the status quo by investing and organizing in communities across the country.

Common, along with more musicians, will kick off the rally at the AFSCME Local 1733. After the march’s conclusion at Mason Temple COGIC, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton will deliver remarks followed by live musical performances.

Those who are unable to attend will be able to watch via livestream courtesy of the I AM 2018 Facebook page.
