ICYMI: Democrats Hold More “People’s Town Halls” Nationwide As Republicans Run from Their Constituents After Supporting Trump’s Unpopular Agenda
March 31, 2025
Last week, Democrats continued hosting “People’s Town Halls,” engaging local community members left behind by their Republican congressional representatives. At People’s Town Halls across the country, one theme is clear: Voters are furious over Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Republicans’ extreme agenda to slash Americans’ health care in order to fund tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy.
Take a look at some of the coverage below:

[Austin Schick, 3/26/25]
“Kentucky voters are expressing their frustrations with the federal government and lawmakers are facing backlash. The Kentucky Democratic Party and retired Democratic Rep. John Yarmuth held a ‘People’s Town Hall’ in Lexington, the district of Republican congressman, Andy Barr.

“Yarmuth and KDP Chairman Colmon Elridge along with Morgan Eaves, the executive director of KDP, spoke to around 200 people at the Lyric Theater in Lexington. Much like similar town halls across the country, they called out Barr and other Republican lawmakers for not speaking directly with the voters.
“‘The way the national Republican Party feels about their policies, they’re afraid to go out and defend their policies in public and I think Andy is too,’ Yarmuth said.”

“With a ‘Fire Andy Barr’ sign in hand, attendee Ethan Wallace was on board.

Raw Story: ‘Turn the tables on them’: Dems troll GOP lawmaker after filling his ‘void’ at town hall
[David McAfee, 3/29/25]
“Dem Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost sent a message to fellow lawmaker on the other side of the aisle, GOP representative John James.
“‘Hey, [James]. Your constituents want to know where you’ve been & why you haven’t hosted a townhall,’ Frost wrote Saturday. ‘Hundreds of them came out to hear [Sen. Chris Murphy] & I fill your void today.’
“‘Heads up, they’re pissed you’re supporting cuts to Medicaid, Social Security, and Veterans benefits,’ Frost added on X.
“Murphy, a Democratic senator, also posted about the event on social media.
“‘Walking into a packed house with [Frost] in Warren, Michigan,’ Murphy said. ‘If Republicans won’t hold public meetings and answer questions about their plan to gut Medicaid to pass giant billionaire tax breaks, we will.’”
The ‘Gander: Republican congressman from Michigan won’t meet with voters—so Dems are doing it for him
[Kyle Kaminski, 3/28/25]

“That fight includes ‘the fight to stop the billionaire takeover of our government, our country, and our democracy,’ Frost added, also calling out Republicans for their efforts to cut Medicaid.”
On Broadcast:
On WKBD: “The Michigan Democratic Party hosted a town hall over the weekend. They want accountability for the attacks on Social Security, Medicare, and veterans. The message was that the Trump presidency has had damaging effects on people in Michigan and families across the country. They also accused congressional Republicans like Representative John James of hiding from their colleagues. ‘Everything going through the executive, solely through the executive, is unacceptable. We have Congress. They passed the budget. Just really not happy with everything going on right now. I think it’s more critical than ever that our elected officials communicate with their constituents.’”
On Fox 56: “Kentucky Democrats hosted another town hall on Wednesday, with former Representative Yarmouth, who’s here with us. Fox 56 News political analyst Jonathan Miller says the event follows a national trend capitalizing on the anger that some voters have over decisions made by the Trump administration.”
On WDAY: “North Dakota Democrats are responding to calls for elected leaders to hold town halls with their own event. … Democrats say you’ll hear stories from people impacted by recent changes President Trump has made.”
On Social:
Sen. Chris Murphy on X: Hey @RepJames, you refuse to hold town halls because you can’t defend throwing millions off their health care to fund a tax cut for your billionaire patrons.
So @MaxwellFrostFL and I did the public meeting that you won’t, and your constituents had this simple question for you.
Sen. Chris Murphy on X: Walking into a packed house with @MaxwellFrostFL in Warren, Michigan.
If Republicans won’t hold public meetings and answer questions about their plan to gut Medicaid to pass giant billionaire tax breaks, we will.
Michigan Democratic Party on X: Amazing turnout at the CD-10 People’s Town Hall, where 400 concerned Michiganders joined @ChrisMurphyCT, @MaxwellFrostFL, @dananessel and @CurtisHertelJr to make their voices heard. @JohnJamesMI wouldn’t show up to talk to his constituents, so we did.
Sterling Heights, Michigan, City Councilman Mike Radtke on X: Amazing turnout at the People’s Town Hall in #Michigan’s 10th District! Our Congressman, @JohnJamesMI, refused to meet with his constituents so we decided to have a meeting ourselves. Over 400 people in the room with more looking for places to park. #MIDems #MI10th @MichiganDems
Morgan Eaves on X: People are mad. They’re scared.
And they’re tired of the bullshit.
Thank you to everyone who joined the @KyDems for tonight’s People’s Town Hall in Lexington. @barrforcongress might not listen, but we will.
And we did.
