ICYMI: DNC and DCCC Ramped Up Pressure on House GOP With New Organizing Program and “Fight to Save Medicaid” Month of Action
May 5, 2025
Last week, the DNC and DCCC kicked off the “Fight to Save Medicaid” month of action, as part of a new DNC distributed organizing program to put vulnerable House Republicans on notice and challenge them to kill Trump and Republicans’ budget bill that puts millions of Americans’ health care on the chopping block. The initiative will target four vulnerable House Republicans: Tom Barrett (MI-07), Don Bacon (NE-02), Mike Lawler (NY-17), and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), sending a clear message that a vote in favor of Medicaid cuts will cost them their seat come midterms.
This distributed organizing program builds on the DNC’s initiatives, including the People’s Town Halls, to empower everyday Americans and grassroots volunteers with the resources and knowledge they need to hold Republicans accountable and amplify their voices in the fight to save our health care.

“‘The American people are furious at Trump and Republicans’ dangerous attacks on their healthcare, and vulnerable Republican representatives. Barrett, Bacon, Lawler, and Fitzpatrick will seal their political fate if they go along with Trump’s disastrous budget,’ the DNC chair, Ken Martin, said in a statement.

CNN: Democrats launch effort to pressure GOP lawmakers to oppose Trump’s tax and spending package
[Arlette Saenz, 5/2/25]
“Democrats are launching a new effort to pressure Republican lawmakers to oppose President Donald Trump’s tax and spending cuts package, specifically targeting four Republican lawmakers in some of the most competitive House districts in the country.
“The effort, involving the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, will include hosting ‘People’s Town Halls’ in some of these Republican districts later in the month and encouraging supporters to apply pressure on the GOP representatives online and through email and phone calls to their offices.
“It comes as the DNC launched a new organizing program timed to a ‘Fight to Save Medicaid’ push for the month of May as Republicans continue to weigh potential cuts to the program as part of the president’s agenda push on Capitol Hill. Democrats have zeroed in on Medicaid as a key messaging issue against Republicans, arguing any cuts to the program would be detrimental to millions of low-income people across the country.”
