ICYMI: DNC Chair Martin, WI and FL State Party Chairs Tout Dem Momentum Following Last Night’s Election Results as Voters Reject Trump-Musk Agenda

Coming off the heels of last night’s election results, where Wisconsin voters resoundingly rejected Elon Musk’s attempt to buy a state Supreme Court seat and Democrats won down the ballot and Florida Democrats historically overperformed in some of the reddest districts in the country, the DNC hosted a press call featuring Chair of the Democratic National Committee Ken Martin, Chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party Ben Wikler, and Chair of the Florida Democratic Party Nikki Fried to highlight how Democrats continue to overperform in special elections and are building back on the local level. Last night’s election results offered the strongest evidence yet that voters are fed up with Donald Trump and Elon Musk and that Democrats are in a strong spot for the upcoming 2025 elections and the 2026 midterms.

While Trump and Musk cater to their billionaire buddies with tax giveaways and attack the programs hardworking Americans depend on, Democrats are organizing everywhere, building momentum, and ready for the fight ahead.

Find highlights from the call below:

“Democrats sent a deafening message last night in both Wisconsin AND Florida.

Yesterday’s elections affirmed that the American people won’t tolerate Trump and Musk’s chaos. As their approval ratings continue to plummet, Democrats are overperforming, winning races, and building momentum,” said Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin. “Americans across blue, purple, and red states are furious that Republicans have chosen to gut health care, dismantle public education, put veterans out of a job, and attack programs like Social Security – all so they can give tax handouts to the richest people in the world. Americans are demanding accountability, which is why so few Republicans are willing to even face their voters or hold town halls. And by the way, if Republicans won’t talk to their own constituents – we will. My message to voters is that we’re hosting town halls in all 50 states and no matter who you voted for, we will look you in the eyes instead of running away scared.

Donald Trump should be very, very worried about the midterm elections. And so should any Republican who rubber-stamps his economy-collapsing agenda.”

“Elon Musk thought that he could put on a cheesehead, that he could bribe Wisconsin voters, that he could buy our courts. Donald Trump and Elon Musk thought that they could make this a referendum on themselves and win that referendum, but Wisconsin said absolutely not. Wisconsin voters delivered a landslide for Susan Crawford over Brad Schimel, Donald Trump, and Elon Musk, and sent an unmistakable message: ‘Democrats are back,’” said Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler. “Voters felt insulted when Musk tried to bribe them. Voters felt infuriated when Musk thought that he would pay attention to his million dollar checks and ignore the fact that he was ripping them off in order to enrich himself and his billionaire friends. Voters saw through the Republican illusion, and Susan Crawford was clear at every step that she would serve with integrity and dignity and decency to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites.”

“Last night, Florida Democrats delivered a historic overperformance in Congressional District One and Congressional District Six, showing that in less than 100 days, voters are already rejecting Trump’s extreme and unpopular agenda. These races should have never been competitive, but we outworked them, we outraised them, and we slashed their margins by more than half, and they panicked,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. “It is a warning sign for Republicans in Florida and across the country, and it should send shivers down the spine of any Republican in an R plus 15 seat or below, these are more seats in Florida. There are no more safe seats in Florida, and last night’s results proved exactly that.”
