ICYMI: DNC Launches New Ad Linking Trump’s SCOTUS Rush to Health Care in FL, GA, NC, PA

As Trump announced his Supreme Court nominee, the DNC War Room released a new television ad, “Samantha,” which blasts Trump for rushing a confirmation so he can strip away health care from millions of Americans and eliminate protections for tens of millions with preexisting conditions during a pandemic. The ad will air in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C. See highlights below:

MSNBC: All In with Chris Hayes

HAYES: With over seven million coronavirus cases in the U.S. and counting, more and more Americans will be left with preexisting conditions trying to figure out how to get coverage, as this new ad for Joe Biden points out. … Whether they will admit it or not, it is the Republican party position to get rid of the regulation that protects people with preexisting conditions. I mean, they tried to repeal that regulation as part of Obamacare twice and failed. Now they’re trying to get rid of it through the Supreme Court. And because it is so politically toxic, I mean truly, truly toxic … the way they kind of square the circle is just lie and pathetically promise over and over that just in two weeks or so, they’ll have figured out a solution.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution: Democrats link Barrett to ACA in new ad

Democrats’ plans to tie the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the battle over health care reform will be obvious to Georgians Monday when the Democratic National Committee launches an ad accusing President Donald Trump of rushing the nomination to end health care protections for people with pre-existing conditions. The ad features a woman named Samantha, who says that she, her husband, and her young daughter all have pre-existing health conditions and have all had COVID-19 since the pandemic arrived in the U.S. in March. “Trump is rushing through a Supreme Court nominee to … strip away care from millions of Americans and end pre-existing condition protections,” Samantha says in the ad. … If confirmed, Barrett would likely join the court just before the Nov. 10 oral arguments for Texas v. California, a challenge from Republican state attorneys general to the Affordable Care Act.

Florida Politics: Democrat ad airing in Florida slams SCOTUS push as way to gut preexisting condition coverage

A new ad from the DNC War Room, introduced in Jacksonville and other parts of Florida to begin this week, is a six-figure bet on the message that Americans will see Donald Trump‘s Supreme Court nominee as an attack on Obamacare. The new minute-long “Samantha” spot offers the narrative perspective of Samantha McGovern, the mother of a child with chronic lung disease. The family contracted COVID-19 (the spot does not go into detail about the transmission), leading McGovern to rhetorically ask the President: “How can you take away the protections that ensure that people hurt by COVID aren’t denied coverage?” … Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez describes health care as a “defining issue” of the 2020 election, and vows that “Floridians will hold Trump accountable for his record.”

PoliticsPA: Exclusive: DNC Ad Links Trump SCOTUS Nomination to GOP Effort to Repeal ACA on Pittsburgh TV

Just two days after President Donald Trump formally nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett as his selection to fill the seat on the Supreme Court previously held by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Democratic National Committee is out with a television ad in the Pittsburgh market criticizing the nomination and linking it to the GOP effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act. In an exclusive to PoliticsPA, the DNC’s 1 minute spot titled, “Samanta,” highlights the story of Samantha McGovern, a mother of a child with a preexisting condition, who tested positive for COVID-19.
