ICYMI: DNC Slams Trump For a Disastrous First 100 Days in Office

Yesterday, the DNC laid out the reality to voters nationwide: Trump has done nothing but screw over working families during his first 100 days in office. Since Day 1, Trump has refused to make good on his campaign promises; instead, he and his GOP henchmen are making life harder and more expensive for working families by slashing federal funding; threatening Medicaid, Social Security, and SNAP; skyrocketing costs; and dragging our economy to negative growth and the brink of a recession. As voters grow increasingly fed up with Trump’s out-of-touch agenda that puts them last, it’s no surprise that Trump is seeing the lowest approval ratings of any president at this stage in 80 years.

The message is clear: By every metric, Trump has been a disaster for Americans.

Here’s a look at the impact of Trump’s disastrous first 100 days in states:

Heartland Signal: NEW: DNC chairman highlights Trump’s disastrous impact on Wisconsinites in first 100 days

[Richard Eberwein, 4/29/25]

“According to the Department of Labor, 55,182 unemployment filings have occurred in Wisconsin since Trump took office in January, while 1,109 people have been laid off.

“Trump’s Republican-controlled Congress has also taken aim at Medicaid and SNAP benefits in budget negotiations, putting millions of Wisconsinites and children at risk of losing health care and food assistance benefits. …

“Over 1.2 million people in Wisconsin rely on Social Security benefits for retirement, and several Republicans have floated changes to the program where young workers would see their benefits reduced. …

“Trump is reportedly planning to unveil a budget that would completely eliminate Head Start, putting $204 million in funding for nearly 15,000 Wisconsin children at risk.

“DNC Chairman Ken Martin issued a response Tuesday morning to Trump’s economic threats to Wisconsin, blasting the president for financially hurting citizens while economists predict a recession.

“‘Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office have been a complete disaster for Wisconsinites. There’s a reason his approval rating continues to drop to record lows. Staring down the threat of a Trump recession, Wisconsinites are seeing costs rise, jobs dry up, Wisconsin projects shuttered, and hard-earned benefits and critical programs under attack. Across the board, Trump’s first 100 days in office have been devastating for Wisconsin. Democrats are organizing and fighting back, building power in Wisconsin community by community, block by block.’”

“Trump’s policies and priorities since his inauguration have created a flurry of trade wars, mass layoffs, chaos at Social Security offices, threats of cuts to veteran services and Medicaid, political retribution, and barely-veiled promises of more to come. …

“‘Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office have been a complete disaster for North Carolinians,’ Ken Martin, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, said in a news release.

“‘Staring down the threat of a Trump recession, North Carolinians are seeing costs rise, jobs dry up, North Carolina projects shuttered, and hard-earned benefits and critical programs under attack,’ he said.”

Southeast Politics: DNC: Donald Trump’s 1st 100 days ‘abject failure’ for Georgia

[Janelle Irwin Taylor, 4/29/25]

“‘Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office have been a complete disaster for Georgians. There’s a reason his approval rating continues to drop to record lows,’ DNC Chair Ken Martin said. ‘Staring down the threat of a Trump recession, Georgians are seeing costs rise, jobs dry up, Georgia projects shuttered, and hard-earned benefits and critical programs under attack.’

“‘Across the board, Trump’s first 100 days in office have been devastating for Georgia. Democrats are organizing and fighting back, building power in Georgia community by community, block by block,’ he continued.

“Department of Labor data shows nearly 58,000 unemployment filings in Georgia under Trump’s watch, with 2,400 Georgians laid off since he took office. Some economists are warning of a possible looming recession.

“Meanwhile, as Republicans in Congress continue to look for ways to pay for extending the Trump tax cuts issued in his first term, which are about to expire if not renewed, including by mulling the possibility of cuts to Medicaid. Nearly 2 million Georgians rely on Medicaid, while the safety net medical program covers 42% of kids in Georgia.

“Likewise, GOP lawmakers are also eyeing cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides monthly funds for low income families to buy food. SNAP supports more than 1.4 million Georgia residents, most of whom live at or below the poverty level. And of those recipients, more than 69% are families with children. …

“The DNC also points to efforts by the Trump administration to dismantle the Education Department, a move the group says has already impacted education funding. Georgia receives $5.3 billion in federal funds that benefit rural, disabled, and low-income students. Efforts to gut the federal public education agency, the DNC says, have already threatened $675 million in Title 1 funding.”

Copper Courier: ‘A complete disaster for Arizonans:’ Trump’s first 100 days hits employment, healthcare, and education

[Camaron Stevenson, 4/29/25]

“US President Donald Trump rings in his second term’s first 100 days with abysmal approval numbers and thousands of Arizonans unemployed as a direct result of his policies—and millions more at-risk of losing their healthcare and retirement savings.

“‘Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office have been a complete disaster for Arizonans,’ said Ken Martin, chair of the Democratic National Committee. ‘Arizonans are seeing costs rise, jobs dry up, Arizona projects shuttered, and hard-earned benefits and critical programs under attack.’

“Since taking office, over 40,000 Arizonans have filed for unemployment—over 4,200 of which have been laid off, and through the US Department of Government Efficiency has closed dozens of federal offices in the state. Trump’s federal budget—given a rubber stamp by Congressional Republicans—would have an impact that would far outlast his presidency, as it includes a ten-year reduction in funding for essential services like Medicaid and Social Security.

“Funding for education initiatives has been put on the chopping block as well, as plans to dismantle the US Department of Education are well underway. This would include the elimination of the Head Start program, which would eliminate jobs for over 800 preschool teachers and take over $300 million away from education funding.”

PoliticsPA: DNC Calls Out “100 Days of Trump” in Pennsylvania

[Steve Ulrich, 4/29/25]

“While 100 days in office is celebrated in most political circles as a time to look back at the accomplishments of the first three months, the Democratic National Committee is drawing attention to what it says are abject failures in Pennsylvania.

“‘Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office have been a complete disaster for Pennsylvanians,’ says DNC chair Ken Martin. ‘There’s a reason his approval rating continues to drop to record lows. Staring down the threat of a Trump recession, Pennsylvanians are seeing costs rise, jobs dry up, Pennsylvania projects shuttered, and hard-earned benefits and critical programs under attack. Across the board, Trump’s first 100 days in office have been devastating for Pennsylvania. Democrats are organizing and fighting back, building power in Pennsylvania community by community, block by block.’ …

“‘As Donald Trump prepares to celebrate 100 days of failure, the reality on the ground for working families is dire – the stock market and 401(k)’s have tumbled, more and more Americans are filing for unemployment, consumer sentiment is in the sewer, and his approval ratings have plummeted. In Trump’s first 100 days in office, he isn’t just failing to deliver on his promises – he is actively making things worse for Pennsylvania.’”

In Michigan:

Michigan Public Radio: Republicans laud Trump’s first 100 days ahead of Michigan visit as Democrats say he’s hurt the state

[Colin Jackson, 4/29/25]

“While Republicans celebrate Trump’s return to the White House, Democrats say the country is now worse off. Tuesday morning, the DNC released its own rundown of Trump’s time in office.

“The Democrats’ ‘snapshot’ cites federal numbers that show Michigan was among the leaders in new unemployment claims for the most recent period, with more than 80,000 unemployment claims filed in the state since Trump took office. (There were more than 230,000 new claims in the state during the first 100 days of the Biden administration, though that time coincided with emergency orders and a surge in cases during the COVID-19 pandemic.) Democrats also say Trump’s actions could put heavily-relied-on government services and social safety net programs like Head Start at risk.

“While supporters of Trump’s vision see his moves as steps to get rid of wasteful spending in the name of efficiency, DNC deputy executive director Libby Schneider said the moves are destabilizing. Schneider was dismissive of Trump’s choice to spend his 100-day mark in Michigan.

“‘He’s going to Michigan to lie to people, but we found out you can’t lie to people when they’re suffering and paying more than they were 100 days ago, and when they are looking at their retirement and figuring out how many years now they have to add to their career in order to be able to afford to retire,’ Schneider said.”
