ICYMI: House Republicans’ Political Stunts Reach New Lows

New reporting calls into question the credibility of Jim Jordan and MAGA Republicans’ politically motivated attacks against President Biden. We now learn that Republicans’ so-called whistleblowers may not actually be federally identified whistleblowers, have espoused conspiracy theories about the January 6 insurrection, and some are even bankrolled by Trump loyalists.

New bombshell reporting shows that the three purported whistleblowers identified in MAGA Republicans’ so-called Weaponization of Government subcommittee are anything but.

CNN: “Three of Jordan’s witnesses have come in for private interviews with committee staff so far. None of them appear to have had their claims validated by government entities that grant federal whistleblower protection.”

New York Times: “The first three witnesses to testify privately before the new Republican-led House committee investigating the “weaponization” of the federal government have offered little firsthand knowledge of any wrongdoing or violation of the law […] Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, the chairman of the panel, has so far relied on people who do not meet the definition of a whistle-blower and who have engaged in partisan conduct that calls into question their credibility.”

Among the “whistleblowers” being called to testify were at the Capitol on January 6, and those sympathetic to the rioters who attacked our democracy, as well as outspoken anti-vaxxers.

CNN: “Separately, several other supposed whistleblowers who have not come in for interviews were suspended from the FBI for being at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 […] This is a point Jordan has not shied away from […] Right-wing opinions about the January 6 attack appear to be a consistent throughline among the three individuals that have come forward so far.”

CNN: “On December 28, 2022, for example, Hill tweeted, ‘insurrection my a$$. It was a set up and sadly, there’s no shortage of idiots willing to take the bait.’ The comment was retweeting a post that read ‘patriots were the ONLY ones trying to STOP the Fake Insurrection violence being committed by Implanted Antifa (Pelosi’s buddies).’”

CNN: “One whistleblower told CNN that some of them communicate over a group text chain and that many initially connected through a community of unvaccinated employees.”

Weakening their credibility even further, reports also show that some of these witnesses were bankrolled by Trump loyalist Kash Patel.

New York Times: “Mr. O’Boyle and Mr. Friend both testified that they had received financial support from Kash Patel, a Trump loyalist and former high-ranking official in the former president’s administration.”

Even House Republicans and conservative commentators have cast doubt on the legitimacy of Jim Jordan and his subcommittee, calling it “amateur hour” and expressing “baffled disappointment.”

Rolling Stone: “But the work so far, the Republican says, has been ‘very much amateur hour,’ adding that airing this ‘stuff on live television would make us look like morons.’”

Rolling Stone: “One well-known conservative media host tells Rolling Stone that after that hearing, this person reached out to their ‘contacts on the [panel]’ to express their baffled disappointment”

These revelations come as earlier this week, Oversight Committee Chair James Comer was blasted from all corners for his despicable attack on President Biden’s deceased son, leading to calls from veterans for Comer to apologize to the Biden family and veterans and servicemembers.

Common Defense: “Unacceptable that @RepJamesComer would attack the character of the late Beau Biden, who served with courage and distinction. We’re calling on Rep. Comer to issue an apology to the Beau Biden family, and our military families, for disparaging his service and legacy.”

The Daily Beast: “House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer invoked the late son of President Joe Biden on Tuesday, lamenting that Beau Biden was never prosecuted over an investigation into illegal contributions involving his father’s 2008 presidential campaign. […] Comer’s invocation of the president’s late son runs contrary to the GOP congressman’s repeated claims that he’s not interested in digging into any Bidens but the president himself.”

This week proved yet again that the MAGA Republican majority will continue to stoop to new lows to carry out political stunt attacks on President Biden.
