ICYMI: In New Lawsuit, DNC Forces Trump Administration to Answer for Threats of Voter Intimidation
March 11, 2026
Yesterday, the DNC sued the Trump administration over its failure to respond to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests on any plans to deploy federal agents or troops to polling places, drop boxes, and election offices in upcoming elections. The DNC will continue to hold the Trump administration accountable for any efforts to intimidate voters or election officials.
Take a look at some of the coverage below:

“‘To ensure that the American people obtain timely knowledge of potential threats to free and fair elections and to enable the D.N.C. to take appropriate action to ensure voting rights are protected, the D.N.C. now seeks this Court’s aid to enforce’ Freedom of Information Act requirements, the lawsuit states.”

Politico: Playbook PM
[3/10/26]
“PRESSURE POINT: The DNC today sued the Trump administration for failing to respond to nearly a dozen FOIA requests for information about whether the president will send armed officers to election sites this year, NYT’s Nick Corasaniti reports. ‘It is possible that no such records exist within the Trump administration; the lawsuit is simply accusing the agencies of failing to respond to the information requests. There are no current reported plans for the administration to use armed agents or troops in the upcoming elections.’”

Democracy Docket: Trump won’t say if he’ll send armed agents to the polls. So Dems are suing to find out
[Jim Saksa, 3/10/26]
“The lawsuit was driven by the fear that Trump will follow through on his many statements suggesting he would ‘take over’ the midterm elections this year. Some of Trump’s outside advisors have urged him to declare a national emergency and send either troops or federal agents to seize voting machines. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt further fueled worries in February by refusing to guarantee federal DHS agents would not be sent to polling places. The FBI’s raid of Fulton County, Georgia’s voting office for 2020 election records, and new reports of a similar investigation in Maricopa County, Arizona, have both added to concerns. […]
“Federal law prohibits troops or federal officers from interfering with elections or even showing up in an official capacity at the polls (they are allowed to vote). The Constitution also empowers states to run elections, while giving Congress the authority to pass superseding laws. The president, alone, has no authority over elections and Trump’s previous executive order on voting issues has been largely blocked by federal courts.”

“The DNC said the court must now enforce FOIA requirements “to ensure that the American people obtain timely knowledge of potential threats to free and fair elections and to enable the DNC to take appropriate action to ensure voting rights are protected.”
