With LGBTQ rights on the line at the Supreme Court, advocates in Kansas City, Missouri are protesting Vice President Pence’s visit today by holding a “Mike Pence Sausage Fest.” Hosted by a local radio station, the “Sausage Fest” follows on the heels of a “Big Gay Dance Party” hosted by the Ohio Democratic Party during Pence’s recent visit to Columbus.

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) – It is always a big deal when the President of the United States or the Vice President of the United States visit the Kansas City area.

Roads are blocked off and large amounts of security following their every step. However, Wednesday will be a little different.

The LGBTQ community in Kansas City and radio station 96.5 The Buzz are throwing a picnic of sorts for Vice President Mike Pence when he visits Kansas City to fundraise for Kansas Republican Congressman Kevin Yoder.

The station is calling it a “Mike Pence Sausage Fest.”

Announced on Twitter, the station’s invitation to the event included a picture of Pence, with a sausage on a fork and a multi-colored flag behind him, representing the gay community.

The station tweeted, “Pence is not fan of the LGBTQ community and we’re no fan of his.”

The group argues the vice president encourages discrimination against their community and issues like spending government money on programs for conversion therapy, something Pence has denied, calling it “Fake News.”

The event is scheduled to begin at about 11 a.m. and is being held at Barney Allis Plaza, with the promise of free hot dogs, while supplies last.

It is important to note, Pence is not in Kansas City to condemn the gay community but is centered around promoting President Donald Trump’s tax plan and helping Yoder fundraise for the upcoming midterm election.
