ICYMI: New DNC Organizing Campaign Targets Texas GOP’s Gerrymandering Scheme, Mobilizes Grassroots Activists to Fight Back
July 29, 2025

Yesterday, the DNC launched a new national organizing campaign to fight back against Donald Trump and Texas Republicans’ attempt to disenfranchise Texas voters and rig the congressional map instead of focusing on flood relief for Texans most in need. As part of this new initiative, the DNC is mobilizing our 30,000 volunteer organizer base to contact persuadable Republicans and independent voters and make sure they know exactly who is responsible for Texas Republicans’ trying to disenfranchise voters even more than they already have. This builds off the DNC’s already robust engagement with Texas voters, including 250,000 texts sent recruiting Texans to turn out for the redistricting field hearings across the state. While Republicans play political games in the wake of tragedy, Democrats are committed to organizing from the ground up to ensure Texans are holding Republicans accountable for ripping away their health, food, and voting power.
Take a look at some of the coverage:
On Broadcast:
On KVUE: “Democrats elsewhere are pitching in to support Texas Democrats in their fight against redistricting. [Oren Oppenheim and Brittany Shepherd, 7/28/25]
“The national Democratic Party is ramping up its offensive against potential mid-decade redistricting in Texas with a new organizing effort launching Monday, according to plans shared first with ABC News.
“The Democratic National Committee (DNC) says it will deploy 30,000 volunteers to make calls to ‘persuadable Republican Texas voters’ in Republican-held districts to discuss the push by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas state legislators — and rubber-stamped by President Donald Trump — to consider redrawing Texas’ congressional map, which the DNC claims in a statement is an attempt to ‘rig the Texas maps at the behest of Donald Trump.’
“The group will also have volunteer organizers contact state representatives, share public comments, and organize both in person and virtually. …
“The DNC says it has already sent text messages to recruit Texans to go to field hearings and to share stories through public comments about how redrawing the districts could impact them. DNC Chair Ken Martin traveled to the state last week to strategize with state leaders.
“‘The DNC is all hands on deck to hold Donald Trump and Greg Abbott accountable for their scheme to use the tragic Texas floods as cover to redraw the Texas maps in a last-ditch effort to save the Republican majority,’ Martin told ABC News in a statement.”

“Democrats are going to spend $20 million and deploy 30,000 volunteers to counter the Texas Legislature’s effort to redraw the state’s congressional districts. President Trump hopes the mid-decade redistricting will help Republicans gain five new seats in the House of Representatives during the 2026 midterm elections.
“The two efforts will be led by the Democratic National Committee and the House Majority PAC, which works to elect Democrats to the House of Representatives.
“‘The DNC is all hands on deck to hold Donald Trump and Greg Abbott accountable for their scheme to use the tragic Texas floods as cover to redraw the Texas maps in a last-ditch effort to save the Republican majority,’ DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a statement. ‘Republicans know that the only way they hold onto the majority is by rigging the system but it won’t work.’ …
“The Democratic National Committee said it will deploy 30,000 volunteers to contact what it described as persuadable Republicans and independents. They are hoping to convince them that Republican lawmakers are disenfranchising voters.
“The DNC said it will use its data and analytics team to identify Republicans they think they can persuade.
“‘Instead of focusing on flood relief, Texas Republicans are focused on rigging the map in a last ditch effort to hold their House majority,’ the DNC said in its announcement.

[Jason Easley, 7/28/25]
“Democrats are being proactive and not sitting around waiting for Republicans to try to gerrymander Texas congressional districts to an even greater degree. …
“According to the DNC, they are also taking action right now by sending 30,000 volunteer organizers to Texas to fight the gerrymander:
“‘The Democratic National Committee announced a new national organizing program aimed at deploying its 30,000 volunteer organizers to contact persuadable Republican and independent Texas voters to let them know exactly how Greg Abbott and legislative Texas Republicans are attempting to disenfranchise their vote and rig the Texas maps at the behest of Donald Trump. Instead of focusing on flood relief, Texas Republicans are focused on rigging the map in a last ditch effort to hold their House majority. Polling shows that this effort is widely unpopular by Texans of all stripes, and now the DNC is targeting persuadable Texans to let them know the names exactly behind this.
“‘Through geotargeting and identification of persuadable Republican targets via the DNC’s data and analytics team, the DNC’s organizing team will make persuasion calls to thousands of Texas voters in key Republican districts along with deploying Texas volunteers to tell their stories and submit public comments, call their own state representatives, and organize in-person and online to build Democratic power in the state.’”
