Key Point: “The funding, the most the national party has ever spent during a New Jersey gubernatorial election, will be earmarked in part for voter turnout efforts, especially for voters of color who tend to vote Democratic when they go to the polls, according to the committee. Gov. Phil Murphy and other legislators are getting $400,000 worth of assistance from the Democratic National Committee.

That’s how much the party is pouring into the state’s elections this fall, including for governor and state Legislature. New Jersey and Virginia are the only states electing governors and legislators this fall, and those races often are considered bellwethers for subsequent midterm elections the following year.

“The DNC is committed to making sure New Jersey Democrats have the resources they need to once again win up and down the ticket in November,” party chair Jaime Harrison said. “Our historic investments will engage with and turn out every eligible voter who cares about seeing working families thrive, no matter what New Jersey neighborhood they live in or language they speak.”

“This significant investment will support ongoing efforts to strengthen voter protections and mobilize turnout within our communities of color this fall,” Murphy said.
