ICYMI: Prices Are Skyrocketing Faster Than Expected Because of Trump’s Tariffs

New economic data shows that US wholesale prices rose by 0.5% in December — more than forecasted and the most in three months as tariffs continue to drive prices higher than pre-2025 trends. Wholesale prices surged by the most in any one month since 2022, when excluding volatile wholesale food and energy prices. The steep rise in wholesale prices suggests that consumers will soon face even more price hikes. Yet, Donald Trump continues to pursue his reckless trade war, claiming that his “tariffs have brought America back.”

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement

“Donald Trump continues to show us just how unaffordable he can make life for everyday Americans. Despite promising to lower costs on ‘Day One,’ Trump continues to pursue his reckless trade war, and working families are footing the bill. Millions of Americans are worried about how they’re going to keep stretching their budgets to afford groceries, rent, and health care. Meanwhile, Trump and Vance can be found attending swanky fundraising dinners with their wealthy donors.”

Everyday Americans continue to foot the bill for Trump’s reckless trade war. Consumers and importers are bearing 96% of the costs of Trump’s tariffs, costing families an extra $1,625, including $310 on grocery costs alone, and causing consumer confidence to plummet to the lowest level since 2014.

According to a recent Fox News poll, voters prefer Democrats over Republicans on taxes — the first time in nearly 20 years — because Americans want the government to focus on affordability, not giving permanent tax breaks to billionaires and corporations.
