ICYMI: Trump’s Reckless Economic Policies are Costing Working Families Hundreds of Hard-Earned Dollars

This holiday season, working families across the country are paying more due to Trump’s economic record and trade policies. According to new state-level data, American families have lost $700 since Trump took office as costs skyrocket, from the grocery store to the gas pump.

While Trump builds a gilded ballroom, throws Great Gatsby parties, and profits from billions of dollars for his family business, working families are forced to pinch their pennies this holiday season.

Here’s a partial look at how Trump’s reckless economic policies are impacting working families, state by state:

Deseret News: What this year’s Thanksgiving prices look like — and what politicians have to say about it

[Lauren Irwin, 11/25/25]

“The Democratic National Committee, along with the Joint Economic Committee Minority compiled the most recent labor statistics to estimate how much American households are spending to afford the same items each month. They note that it’s the same method of examining costs that Republicans used under the Biden administration.

“They found that from February to September 2025, the average American family has paid more than $700 in higher costs due to Trump-era inflation. The analysis finds that Utahns are paying more than other states, too. The report stated that Utah families are paying $1,030 more than they previously did for the same goods.

“DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a statement to the Deseret News that Utahns are paying more because of Trump’s ‘disastrous economic agenda’ and argued it was built on ‘broken promises.’

“‘This Thanksgiving, monthly costs are rising, and families in Utah are paying more because Trump and his Republican lackeys don’t have any plan to make life more affordable for working people in this country,’ Martin said.”

[Simone Carter, 11/25/25]

“Inflation under the administration of President Donald Trump has amounted to a nearly $1,000 price hike for Washingtonians, according to data shared Nov. 19 by the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

“The Evergreen State’s $948 cost increase was the sixth-highest in the nation, the report shows. …

“DNC Chair Ken Martin told McClatchy in an emailed statement that Washington residents are on the hook for the president’s ‘disastrous economic agenda.’

“‘Monthly costs are rising, and families in Washington are paying more because Trump and his Republican lackeys don’t have any plan to make life more affordable for working people in this country,’ Martin said.”

Heartland Signal: Report: Montana seeing some of the biggest increased costs under Trump tariffs

[Richard Eberwein, 11/24/25]

“A new report shows that inflation under President Donald Trump’s second term has resulted in families paying significantly more for goods despite Republican claims that costs are decreasing. …

“Montana has seen one of the largest increases in costs, spurring a statement from Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin.

“‘In Donald Trump’s America, Montanans are bearing the costs of Trump’s disastrous economic agenda that has already cost Montana families $894 dollars more in the first six months of his presidency,’ Martin said. ‘Trump’s reckless trade wars, billionaire-first policies, and broken promises to lower costs have devastated communities across Montana, with no end in sight. Monthly costs are rising, and families in Montana are paying more because Trump and his Republican lackeys don’t have any plan to make life more affordable for working people in this country.’”

Colorado Politics: Trump economic policies cost Colorado households more than $1,000 on average, national Democrats say

[Ernest Luning, 11/24/25]

“Colorado families had to shell out over $1,000 more on average to afford the same items in the first eight months of the Trump administration, according to an analysis of inflation data released Monday by the Democratic National Committee.

“The state’s average $1,062 cost increase was the fourth-highest in the country, the DNC said, citing a report prepared by the congressional Joint Economic Committee’s minority Democrats based on methods the same committee’s Republicans used to estimate state-level costs during the Biden administration. …

“‘In Donald Trump’s America, Coloradans are bearing the costs of Trump’s disastrous economic agenda,’ DNC Chair Ken Martin told Colorado Politics in an emailed statement.

“‘Monthly costs are rising, and families in Colorado are paying more because Trump and his Republican lackeys don’t have any plan to make life more affordable for working people in this country,’ Martin added.”

Politico: California Playbook: Rob Bonta’s explanation game

[Dustin Gardiner and Blake Jones, 11/20/25]

“Democrats on the Joint Economic Committee produced an analysis estimating that California residents have paid more for basic goods than peers in any other state during Trump’s second term. The average California family paid an additional $1,112 between February and September due to inflation, they concluded, a figure that could prove useful as Democrats attempt to retake the narrative on inflation and hammer Trump over his record.

“‘In Donald Trump’s America, Californians are bearing the costs of Trump’s disastrous economic agenda that has already cost California families $1,112 more in the first six months of his presidency — more than any other state,’ Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin told Playbook in a statement.”

“Nationwide, from February through September, people are paying $706 more on average than they did during the same timeframe in 2024 due to inflation , the report says.

“The panel contrasted this data with comments by President Donald Trump that ‘inflation will be in FULL RETREAT’ by August and that he would ‘bring the cost of everything way down.’”
