In the Face of Republicans Choosing The NRA Over Our Children, Biden Takes Action To Keep Our Communities Safe
May 25, 2022
While Republican lawmakers have proven time and time again that they would rather stand with the gun lobby instead of protecting our nation’s children and supporting commonsense gun safety measures, President Biden is calling out the gun lobby and has been using every tool at his disposal to combat gun crime, crack down on ghost guns, and keep our communities safe.
Last month, President Biden and the Department of Justice issued a new rule to crack down on the proliferation of ghost guns.

CBS News: “President Biden and the Justice Department announced new steps Monday aimed at combating gun crimes, including a rule targeting the manufacture and sale of so-called ‘ghost guns,’ or homemade firearms that lack serial numbers and are difficult to trace.”
Axios: “Under the new rule, the ATF will change its definition of a firearm to include unfinished parts like frames and receivers, which means serial numbers will be required and dealers selling the parts will need to run background checks on buyers.”
President Biden quickly directed his administration to take action to combat gun crime and help keep our communities safe.
Politico: “Biden will also direct the Department of Justice to provide states within 60 days with proposed red flag legislation that would permit courts to order the temporary removal of firearms from a person who may be a danger to themselves or others and issue a comprehensive report on firearms trafficking, according to the White House. The last report was completed in 2000. In addition, Biden will direct five federal agencies to redirect money to help prevent community violence. The Department of Health and Human Services will also help teach states how they can use Medicaid money for gun violence prevention.”
CNN: “Another proposed rule would target stabilizing braces for pistols, which aid in the weapons’ accuracy and manage recoil. Under the new rule, the devices — which the senior administration official contended turn pistols into short barreled rifles — would be covered by regulations in the National Firearms Act, including requiring registration.”
Less than two months after taking office, President Biden and Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan, which includes billions of dollars in funding that could be used to help local communities combat gun violence.

ABC News: “The COVID-19 relief law included $350 billion for state and local governments to reduce violence.”
Wall Street Journal: “Mr. Biden emphasized that state and local officials in areas experiencing surges in gun violence can use $350 billion in Covid-19 relief funding to hire more law-enforcement personnel, even if it raises the total number beyond its pre-pandemic level.”
