IN THE STATES: Democrats Continue to Meet the Moment and Win Elections While Trump and Republicans’ Deeply Unpopular Agenda Alienates Voters

As Trump once again flip-flopped on his unaffordable national tax that is throwing small businesses and America’s economy into chaos, the DNC called out Trump with a taco truck. On Tuesday, the DNC coordinated free lunch for Hill staffers and the public right in front of the RNC headquarters while displaying a banner with Trump’s well-deserved moniker TACO (“Trump Always Chickens Out”).

Last week, Iowa Senator Joni Ernst came under fire after callously remarking, “well, we all are going to die” as a response to constituents’ fears about cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. After saying the quiet part out loud, Ernst refused to apologize or express empathy to her constituents. Instead, the senator doubled down on her and Trump’s dangerous budget bill, releasing a video recorded in a graveyard mocking her constituents again. Here’s the reality: Ernst and the rest of her Republican colleagues are ready to let their own constituents die in order to pass a bill to give more tax breaks for Trump’s billionaire backers.

Also this week, Democratic candidates in South Carolina and Mississippi clinched sweeping victories across various elections. In South Carolina, 24-year-old Keishan Scott overperformed the top of the 2024 ticket by 36 points in Sen. Lindsey Graham’s backyard, while in deep-red Mississippi, Democrats won mayoral elections across the state. With these victories, Democrats improve on our overperformance record and prove once again that our momentum in special elections is here to stay.

In Arkansas, Utah, and Florida, DNC Chair Ken Martin outlined the key moves the DNC is already making to carry out his vision to build a strong Democratic Party operation that extends far beyond DC to where elections are won: in the states. As part of Chair Martin’s mission to “organize everywhere, win anywhere,” the DNC announced its largest to-date investment in Democratic state parties, totaling $1 million a month, to turbocharge grassroots organizing, build infrastructure, and strengthen on-the-ground operations. With this investment, the DNC is laying the groundwork to ensure state Democrats, especially in Sun Belt states, have the support they need to meet the moment and build critical infrastructure that will enable us to win elections nationwide for years to come.
