IN THE STATES: Democrats Slam Trump and Republicans for Failing Working Families With Their Toxic Agenda and Overturning Roe v. Wade

One year ago, Donald Trump began his second term with a promise to bring an “economic boom” to working families. Instead, his disastrous policies have thrown the country into chaos, left working families struggling, and pushed our economy towards the brink. It’s no wonder Americans are overwhelmingly dissatisfied with Trump’s first year back in office: if you’re not a billionaire, you’re far worse off than you were a year ago. To mark the anniversary of Trump’s first year back in office, a new DNC analysis showed exactly how Trump has been a complete disaster for families across the country.

To mark the 53rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the female chairs of red-state Democratic parties released a joint statement slamming Donald Trump for overturning Roe, paving the way for draconian abortion bans and aggressive rollbacks of fundamental freedoms across the country.

This past weekend, DNC Chair Ken Martin was in Atlanta, GA to discuss the DNC’s new voter registration program “When We Count” and outline the DNC’s strategy to build democratic power across the Peach State. Chair Martin emphasized that the DNC is making voter registration its top priority in 2026, and that starts by engaging and mobilizing voters in communities where we lost ground in 2024.

Ahead of Utah Governor Spencer Cox’s State of the State Address, DNC Chair Ken Martin reminded voters that no matter how hard Cox tries to paper over his failures, it’s clear his leadership is failing working Utahns. Under Cox and Utah Republicans’ watch, costs are rising, health care is more expensive, and rural hospitals are closing. The stark reality is that Utah is worse off under Donald Trump’s and Cox’s leadership.

Also this week, the DNC blasted Donald Trump and Florida Republicans for ripping away life-saving HIV medication from over 10,000 Floridians with their Big Ugly Bill. Make no mistake: this is a matter of life and death for some Floridians, but all Trump and Republicans care about is lining the pockets of their billionaire donors.

Yesterday, JD Vance traveled to Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, where he tried — and failed — to sell Trump’s disastrous economic policies. But, Ohioans weren’t falling for it. Ohio families know how terrible Trump’s first year in office has been, from paying more than $1,500 on the basics to losing an additional $1,060 per year due to Trump’s Big Ugly Bill and chaotic tariffs. While Vance leaves Ohioans out in the dust, Democrats are fighting hard to lower costs and protect health care for Ohio families.
