Ivanka Trump’s Email Hypocrisy

Trump spent his campaign attacking Hillary Clinton for using a private email account for official business. Now, we’ve learned that Ivanka Trump used similar email practices. The hypocrisy could not be clearer.

Ivanka Trump used a personal email account for official government business, violating federal records rules.

Washington Post: “Ivanka Trump sent hundreds of emails last year to White House aides, Cabinet officials and her assistants using a personal account, many of them in violation of federal records rules, according to people familiar with a White House examination of her correspondence.”

HYPOCRISY: Trump said Clinton’s use of private email was “either criminal or incompetent.”

Trump: “But look, it’s either criminal or incompetent, it’s one or another … either gross incompetence or criminal, and neither’s acceptable to be president.”

Ivanka Trump defended her use of personal email for government business saying that she was not familiar with the rules.

Washington Post: “Some aides were startled by the volume of Ivanka Trump’s personal emails — and taken aback by her response when questioned about the practice. She said she was not familiar with some details of the rules, according to people with knowledge of her reaction.”

HYPOCRISY: Trump said Clinton was guilty even if her use of private email for government business was a “mistake.”

Trump: “She knew what was going on. And, frankly, even if she didn’t, what she did was wrong. And you know whether you had intent or not is not the defining characteristic of this. You can make a mistake and you are still guilty.”

HYPOCRISY: Trump attacked Clinton for saying that she did not know the rules around personal email use for government business.

Trump: “She doesn’t remember anything. She doesn’t even remember whether or not she was instructed on how to use emails. Were you instructed on how to use it? ‘I can’t remember.’”
