Kevin McCarthy’s GOP is Run By MAGA Extremists

This morning, we saw what happens when a political party is so desperate for power that it sells its soul to far-right extremists. Instead of holding Kevin McCarthy accountable for being a liar and a fraud, House Republicans actually rewarded him with a standing ovation, and promised to elevate him if Republicans take control.

The evidence is clear: Today’s Republican Party is run by MAGA extremists, and they can’t be trusted with power.

Kevin McCarthy proved he was a loyal MAGA soldier when he sold out our country to appease Donald Trump and far-right extremists, even after Trump incited a violent mob to assault our democracy and police officers.

Kevin McCarthy on January 11, 2021: “But let me be very clear to you and I have been very clear to the President. He bears responsibility for his words and actions. No if, ands or buts … I asked him personally today, does he hold responsibility for what happened? Does he feel bad about what happened? He told me he does have some responsibility for what happened. And he needs to acknowledge that.”

Kevin McCarthy on January 28, 2021: “Today, President Trump committed to helping elect Republicans in the House and Senate in 2022”

And now, it’s clear the rest of the Republican Party is so extreme and desperate for power that they’re willing to fall in line with McCarthy, Trump, and far-right extremists.

Politico Huddle: “House Republicans returning to Washington after the long recess are standing by McCarthy (and Trump) despite the taped conversations during which the GOP leader considered asking President Donald Trump to resign after the Capitol attack and his assertion that some of his own GOP colleagues posed a security risk.”

ABC News’s Katherine Faulders: “Leaving the GOP conference meeting members tell us that McCarthy got a round of applause and standing ovation.”

Punchbowl News’s Jake Sherman: “So McCarthy speaks, Rs give $1.8M in donations and his allies are now praising him.”

Politico’s Olivia Beavers: “Rep. MTG’s message: every member has had their words twisted in media, and that they shouldn’t be going after one another/need to be careful about what they say, per 2 R sources in room who said members found message quite ironic coming from her.”

Rep. Kat Cammack: “We had a good family discussion. We’re all on the same page … We move forward one team one mission”

CBS News’s Scott MacFarlane: “Rep Ronny Jackson (R-TX) tells me he supports McCarthy as leader”
