LIES vs. REALITY: Trump’s White House Tries to Spin Their Failures as Americans Brace for a “Serious Trump Recession”

Desperate to cover up for Donald Trump’s unpopular economic agenda, his administration is spewing straight-up lies about manufacturing jobs and small business confidence. In fact, Trump and his MAGA lackeys should probably start reading the sources they share — including a recent White House press release that cited reports showing weakened demand, soaring prices, and fears for the future because of Trump.

Luckily for Trump and his team, we brought the receipts:

LIE: Karoline Leavitt recently claimed that CEOs backed Donald Trump’s economic agenda  (citing an out-of-date report from before Trump tanked Americans’ 401(k)s, consumer confidence, and job growth).

REALITY: The latest data shows businesses are fearful of Trump’s economic agenda — CEO optimism and small business sentiment are plummeting to historic lows.

LIE: Trump claimed his administration has begun to “rapidly reverse” a decline in manufacturing jobs.

REALITY: Manufacturing employment remains below every monthly reading from 2024, with non-durable goods manufacturing employment falling 51%.

LIE: A White House press release claimed Trump’s economic agenda spurred a “manufacturing turnaround.”

REALITY: The reports touted by the White House actually found that factory activity “barely expanded in February,” new orders plummeted “the most in nearly five years,” and prices skyrocketed “by the highest monthly margin in more than a year.” In one of the reports linked on the Trump White House website, S&P’s chief business economist even warned sector gains could be “short lived” due to Trump’s economic agenda.
