Louisiana Democrat Chasity Verret Martinez Wins Trump +13 House District 60 Seat by 24 Points

Verret Martinez’s victory marks a 37% swing to Democrats from 2024

Last night, Democratic candidate Chasity Verret Martinez clinched a dominant victory in the Louisiana House District 60 race — a district Donald Trump won by 13 points in 2024. By winning by 24 points, 62-38%, Verrett Martinez clinched a 37% overperformance, in yet another sign that Democrats have the clear momentum heading into November. She joins Texas Democrat Sen.-elect Taylor Rehmet in securing a 30+ point overperformance from the top of the ticket in 2024 for Democrats this February alone. Democrats have now won or overperformed in 244 of 274 key elections since Trump took office.

In red, blue, and purple communities, voters are souring on Donald Trump and his disastrous, billionaire-first agenda that is raising costs on working families. In Louisiana, over 357,000 people are set to lose their health care because of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, 33 rural hospitals are on the brink of closure, and families are paying hundreds of dollars more for the basics.

That’s why voters are putting their faith in strong Democratic leaders like Representative-elect Verrett Martinez, who will fight every day to lower costs and protect Lousianans’ health care.

In response to Verret Martinez’s stunning victory, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Representative-elect Verret Martinez ran an exceptional campaign focused on solutions to the issues that families care most about, from the rising costs of basic goods and essentials to the dozens of rural hospitals in Louisiana at-risk of closure, all thanks to Donald Trump, Mike Johnson, and Louisiana Republicans. This race could have been the first Republican flip of the year. Instead, Verret Martinez scored the second Democratic overperformance by 30+ points in the month of February alone, marking another major warning sign to Republicans across the country. In red, blue, and purple America, voters are standing up and demanding leaders who put working families first — and those leaders are Democrats. From Louisiana and the Sun Belt to everywhere else, blue momentum is rising across the country, but we will not be complacent. We will keep working to put Republicans out of power come November.”
