MAGA Hot Mic: Georgia Governor Brian Kemp

For the second time, Georgia’s GOP Governor Brian Kemp picks up MAGA Hot Mic honors for opening the door wide to restricting in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Brian Kemp was caught on tape saying he liked the idea of a statewide ban on aspects of a procedure millions of women rely on for IVF.

Atlanta Journal Constitution: “Tipsters sent us audio of Gov. Brian Kemp at a recent stop in Blakely where he was asked by someone posing as a supporter whether he backs a ‘statewide ban on the destruction of embryos.’

‘Would that pass the Legislature? Is that possible?’ the person asks, leading another voice to say it could be one of several proposals that could come forward.

‘Yeah, we barely got the heartbeat bill passed, one vote,’ Kemp responded.

‘Do you like the idea?’ the questioner asked.

‘Yeah,’ the governor said.”

And let’s not forget we called out Kemp last time because he was caught on tape opening the door to banning Plan B and forms of contraceptives.

Heartland Signal: “During [a] public appearance at the University of Georgia last week, Gov. Brian Kemp (R) expressed his openness to ban contraception depending on ‘where the legislatures are.’ […] Unless the right to contraception is codified into law by Congress ― something that will not happen if the Republican party is in control ― it can be overturned by the Supreme Court similar to federal abortion rights.”

11Alive: “A person asks the governor if he has the power to ban Plan B, an emergency contraception known as the morning-after pill. Another voice, confirmed to be Kemp, said it’s possible but clarified Georgia’s General Assembly must be in a legislative session. He explained how it’s a possibility, but cited that lawmakers had to support the idea. However, the governor pointed out that since states have the power to construct policies around abortion, there are possibilities.”

Keep in mind all of this is coming from the individual responsible for signing one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country.

Heartland Signal: “Kemp already signed one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country in 2019, which bans all abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected. Cardiac activity can usually be detected in an embryo around six weeks of pregnancy, when most women do not even know they are pregnant yet.”

Brian Kemp and the Republican Party continue to demonstrate their relentless commitment to restricting women’s decisions about their own bodies. When Republicans tell you who they are, believe them.
