MAGA Hot Mic: Michigan State GOP Rep. Steve Carra

Steve Carra: “Due to the anticipated fall of Roe v. Wade in the next week, I am taking immediate action… The time for cheap talk is over and the time for action is now.”

Today’s MAGA Hot Mic honor falls on Michigan State GOP Rep. Steve Carra.

Before the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was even released, Michigan State Representative Steve Carra introduced a bill that would ban abortion at all stages.

PBS: “Rep. Steve Carra who introduced the bill said in a statement that House Bill 6270 ‘will update the 1931 Law to make it enforceable post-Roe v. Wade’”

Carra didn’t stop there. Not only does his bill outlaw abortion, but it punishes health care workers who provide abortion services.

Detroit News: “Carra argued the proposed Protection at Conception Act will make the state’s 1931 abortion ban ‘enforceable’ should the U.S. Supreme Court overturn the landmark 1973 Roe decision in the coming days and return the decision on abortion to the states. ‘This is the most comprehensive pro-life legislation introduced in Michigan and will be legally enforceable,’ Carra said in a statement Wednesday.’”

CBS Detroit: “The measure was introduced last month and is looking to create penalties with a 10-year prison sentence and a $100,000 fine. It also states that anyone manufacturing, distributing or selling a drug intended to cause an abortion would be guilty of a felony and sentenced to no more than 20 years.”

Steve Carra’s bill made clear from the beginning that overturning Roe was just the first step. Extreme MAGA Republicans have declared a full-out war on reproductive rights, and if they gain power in November, the Michigan GOP could answer Carra’s calls for an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest.
