Today’s MAGA Hot Mic is a special edition rounding up what extreme MAGA Republicans have said on the record regarding abortion. After voters in Kansas made it resoundingly clear yesterday that they oppose their extreme anti-choice agenda, all of the MAGA Republicans should be ready to be held accountable in November. 

Here’s what they are saying: 

• Virginia GOP congressional candidate Yesli Vega implied that people who experience rape are less likely to get pregnant. 

• While touting his anti-choice record, Nevada GOP Senate candidate Adam Laxalt called the landmark Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade a “joke.” 

• When asked by a reporter whether a “12-year-old molested by her family members should carry that pregnancy to term,”Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn said  “That is my personal belief.”

• South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem made clear she thinks a 10-year-old rape victim should be forced to carry out her pregnancy. 

• GOP Rep. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania proposed a federal abortion ban that would ban abortion after six weeks — well before many people know they are pregnant — and criminalize providers, with no exceptions for rape or incest.

• Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin doubled down on his promise to expand abortion restrictions saying he will sign “any bill… to protect life.”

• Trump-endorsed Wisconsin GOP gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels left the door open to banning contraceptives. 

• In an interview, Maine GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Paul LePage completely dismissed the millions of women now living in fear about not being able to make their own health care decisions saying it only affects a few and he doesn’t have time to address the issue. 

• In a desperate attempt to cover up the Republican Party’s extreme views on women’s health care and abortion, North Carolina GOP Rep. Greg Murphy claimed “no one forces anyone to have sex.”

• Maine GOP State Rep. Peter Lyford put his GOP MAGA extremism on full display — bragging about his anti-choice record and the fact that he opposes abortions even with NO exceptions for when a mother’s life is in danger.

• Montana GOP State Rep. Brad Tschida said, “a woman’s womb serves no specific purpose to her life or well-being.” 

• In an interview, Idaho GOP State Rep. Brent Crane touted the fact that his caucus is considering banning Plan B. 

• In Ohio, a group of House Republicans led by Gary Click introduced a bill that would effectively ban all abortions from the moment of conception, and potentially forms of birth control like IUDs.

• Texas GOP Rep. Jodey Arrington said he wants to bring Texas’s abortion ban with NO exceptions for rape or incest to the rest of the country.

• At the GOP state party convention, Idaho Republicans rejected an amendment to the party platform that would protect abortion access in cases where the mother’s life is at risk.

• West Virginia GOP Rep. Alex Mooney introduced the The Life at Conception Act, which lays the groundwork for Republicans to totally ban abortion nationally and could affect access to forms of birth control and IUDs. 

• The top Republican in Michigan, Senate Majority Leader Rep. Mike Shirkey, reminded everyone that the decision to overturn Roe was only the beginning of Republicans’ war on reproductive health, and made clear Republicans want to take away women’s right to make health care decisions for themselves and infringe on their right to privacy.

• North Carolina Republicans, led by Larry Pittman, introduced HB 158 last year, which would authorize the use of force against abortion providers and women seeking medical treatment. 

• New Hampshire GOP Senate Candidate Kevin Smith doubled down on his decades-long, extreme anti-choice stance and supported bringing it to the federal level.

• Matt Birk, Minnesota GOP Lieutenant Gubernatorial candidate, made a misogynistic joke and claimed a negative impact of promoting abortion is that it promotes women working. He even went on to dismiss victims of rape and incest. 

• After Georgia’s abortion ban took effect,Georgia Republican Senate Candidate Herschel Walker made clear what his goal would be if he was elected — a national abortion ban.

• During a recent podcast, Minnesota GOP State Rep. Tony Albright bragged about supporting an abortion ban with NO exceptions and falsely claimed the case of a 10-year-old rape victim in Ohio was not corroborated. 

• West Virginia State Senator Robert Karnes insisted that child rape victims “romanticize” their adult abusers to justify his anti-abortion position. To add to it, Karnes has a history of promoting anti-abortion views and has called for a draconian abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest in West Virginia. 

• Hung Cao, Virginia congressional candidate, compared abortion access and a bill to prevent criminalizing miscarriages to Nazism.

• Michigan State GOP Rep. Steve Carra introduced a bill that would ban abortion at all stages and punish health care workers who provide abortion services.

• In Wisconsin, all three GOP candidates running for governor support an abortion ban with NO exceptions for rape or incest.

Let’s not forget. Congressional Republicans are already fulfilling their promise to go even further than overturning Roe. 

• A majority of House Republicans voted AGAINST a woman’s right to contraceptives. 

• A majority of House and Senate Republicans voted AGAINST a bill that would protect a woman’s ability to travel to another state to access reproductive care.

MAGA Republicans are blowing the door wide open on their agenda and proving to voters exactly what’s at stake in November. They are all in on their plan to ban abortion. Americans cannot afford the GOP’s dangerous, anti-choice agenda.
