MAGA Hot Mic: The Wisconsin GOP Ticket

Today’s MAGA Hot Mic honors fall on the extreme, anti-choice Wisconsin GOP ticket.

First up in the Wisconsin Republican slate is GOP Senator Ron Johnson, an anti-choice extremist who has cosponsored several previous versions of Lindsey Graham’s national abortion ban bill. Johnson has also callously said that any Wisconsinite who doesn’t like the state’s abortion laws “can move.”

Vanity Fair: “[Johnson] said anyone who does not like Wisconsin’s abortion laws ‘can move,’ has advocated for a federal abortion ban after 20 weeks—despite arguing that the matter was a state’s issue—and supported a Mississippi law to ban abortions after 15 weeks.”

Next up is Tim Michels, the GOP nominee for Wisconsin governor, who said that he “worked” and “prayed” for Roe v. Wade to be overturned. He said that Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban is an “exact mirror” of his extreme, anti-choice agenda. Michels then took his extremism even further and said that it’s “not unreasonable” to force a rape victim to “go through birth.”

Wisconsin Examiner: “Michels has also previously said that it’s ‘not unreasonable’ to force a pregnant rape victim to ‘go through birth.’”

But Wisconsin Republicans’ extremism doesn’t end there. The Republican nominee for attorney general, Eric Toney, vowed to fully enforce the state’s 1849 abortion ban and said he wouldn’t rule out using Department of Justice resources to prosecute abortions — even in cases of rape or incest. In fact, Toney even suggested that district attorneys should have the power to cross county lines to prosecute reproductive health care.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “Attorney general candidate Eric Toney doesn’t rule out prosecuting abortion in cases of rape, incest”

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: ‘We need to give our attorney general the authority to prosecute… And I think another approach would be allowing for adjoining counties to be able to investigate and enforce that abortion ban in Wisconsin.’

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “As for abortion, Toney said he would enforce whatever law Wisconsin has regarding that procedure, including prosecuting doctors who an 1849 law that restricted most abortions.”

The Wisconsin Republican statewide ticket is running on a radical agenda to criminalize abortion and support a ban that could force rape victims to give birth. Wisconsinites simply do not want the extreme, anti-choice agenda Ron Johnson, Tim Michels and Eric Toney are offering.
