MAGA Hot Mic: Utah GOP Congressman John Curtis

Today’s MAGA Hot Mic honors fall on Utah GOP Congressman John Curtis, who said the quiet part out loud on the GOP’s anti-choice extremism during a debate last Thursday.

John Curtis had the audacity to say, “I wish, as a man, I didn’t have to make this decision. I wish women could make this decision.” Someone should remind Curtis that it is Republican lawmakers who are working to take away a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.

American Independent: “Incumbent Republican Rep. John Curtis of Utah, who calls himself ‘unapologetically pro-life,’ said during a debate with his Democratic challenger in the 2022 election, Glenn Wright, that he wishes women could decide on state laws regulating abortion, but that overwhelmingly male legislatures have to do it themselves.”

The Hill: “Rep. John Curtis (R-Utah) said on Thursday that he wishes ‘women could make this decision’ while discussing abortion laws in the state. ‘I wish, as a man, I didn’t have to make this decision,’ Curtis said at a debate on Thursday night. ‘I wish women could make this decision.’ The candidate, who also said he identifies as ‘unapologetically pro-life’…”

We agree, Congressman Curtis — decisions regarding reproductive health should be determined between a woman and her doctor. Period. John Curtis’s rhetoric is patronizing and hypocritical given his long track record of anti-choice extremism.
