MAGA Hot Mic: Wisconsin GOP Attorney General Nominee Eric Toney
October 6, 2022
Today’s MAGA Hot Mic features Wisconsin’s Republican nominee for attorney general, Eric Toney.
Eric Toney, who is running for AG, has refused to rule out weaponizing Department of Justice resources to prosecute abortions — even in cases of rape and incest. Let that sink in: This Republican wants to use state resources to go after doctors who help victims of rape and incest.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “Eric Toney, Wisconsin’s Republican candidate for attorney general, said he wouldn’t rule out using Department of Justice resources to prosecute abortions, even in cases of rape and incest.”
But Toney didn’t stop there: He has continuously pledged to defend the state’s near total abortion ban from 1849, which was passed before the Civil War and before women even had the right to vote.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “During an interview on WKOW 27 Sunday, Toney… reiterated he would defend abortion laws passed by the GOP-run state Legislature.”
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “The 1849 ban, which originated before the Civil War and at a time when Wisconsin women did not have the right to vote, would ban nearly all abortions in the state, including in cases of rape and incest.”
Let’s be clear: Eric Toney’s anti-choice agenda is completely out of step with a majority of Wisconsinites — including a majority of Republicans — who believe that women should have access to safe and legal abortion in cases of rape and incest. In fact, a majority of Wisconsin voters opposed the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “The most recent Marquette University Law School Poll showed 28% of Republicans and 62% of independents opposed the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Overall, 60% of poll respondents opposed the decision. In the same poll, 79% of Republicans said they believe Wisconsin should allow a woman to obtain a legal abortion if she became pregnant as the result of rape or incest.”
Republicans like Eric Toney have made clear that they are hellbent on banning abortion in their state. Wisconsin voters simply do not want the GOP’s dangerous agenda.
