McConnell Confirms Republicans’ Extreme Plan to Ban Abortion

In an interview this weekend, Mitch McConnell confirmed that a federal abortion ban is “possible” under Republican control. Not only are Republicans hellbent on gutting reproductive rights, they’re standing on the side of dangerous policies that put millions of pregnant people at risk.

Mitch McConnell came right out and said it – Republican majorities would be interested in banning abortions nationally.

Vanity Fair: “MITCH MCCONNELL ACKNOWLEDGES A NATIONAL ABORTION BAN IS ‘POSSIBLE’ IF ROE IS OVERTURNED”

Washington Examiner: “McConnell says national abortion ban ‘possible’ if Roe overturned”

The Hill: “McConnell says national abortion ban ‘possible’”

And Republicans across the country, including in McConnell’s own caucus, are talking about banning abortion with NO EXCEPTIONS for rape or incest.

Insider: “Republican senators won’t say if they support rape and incest exceptions to abortion bans: ‘Come back and see me after the Supreme Court rules’”

HuffPost’s Igor Bobic: “Lankford says he supports a federal ban on abortion but doesn’t believe the votes are there — yet.”

NBC News’s Frank Thorp V: “Sen Cramer says if SCOTUS does away w/ Roe, ‘I think you could expect that pro-life activists would would push for federal protections. Yeah, I mean, I wouldn’t take that off the table”

Republicans continue to prove how dangerous Republican majorities would be, and Democrats will make sure voters know what’s at stake in November.

The overwhelming majority of Americans support safe and legal access to abortion and support the precedent established by the Supreme Court nearly 50 years ago. Republicans’ MAGA agenda is wildly out of touch with the American people.

HuffPost: “Poll: Majority Of Americans Want Federal Law Making Abortion Legal Across U.S.”

Bloomberg: “A broad majority of Americans in a new poll say abortion should be legal if the mother’s life or health are at risk or the pregnancy is a result of rape, a potential political risk for Republican lawmakers backing bans with no exceptions.”

Axios: “Survey: Over 60% of adults say most abortions should be legal in U.S.”

CBS News: “The nearly two-thirds of Americans who want Roe v. Wade kept in place say they feel angry and discouraged about the prospect that it may be overturned, describing that as “a danger to women” and as a threat to rights more generally.”
